At Crazy Creek Outfitters, we pride ourselves on offering unparalleled hunting experiences in the stunning wilderness of Montana. Our founder, Matt Turner, brings a lifetime of expertise and passion for the outdoors, ensuring that every adventure with us is nothing short of extraordinary.
Our Story
Matt Turner was born and raised on a farm and ranch in North Central Montana, where he developed a deep love for the land and wildlife. His upbringing in agriculture taught him work ethic, responsibility, and integrity. From a young age, Matt spent countless hours stalking game in Montana’s beautiful Sweetgrass Hills, hunting whitetail, mule deer, elk, and fishing. His winter hobbies included predator calling and trapping furbearers.
At 15, Matt packed his first camp into the Great Bear Wilderness, igniting a passion for exploring Montana’s vast wilderness. After high school, he dove directly into outfitting, gaining experience with numerous outfitters in the Bob Marshall, Scapegoat, and Great Bear Wilderness areas. Matt honed his skills as a successful packer, guide, and cook, later working as a long-string packer for the USFS and NPS in Glacier National Park.
In 2020, Matt ventured into the Bitterroot Valley and began guiding for Rick Wemple Outfitting, Inc., learning new techniques and strategies. In 2023, Matt became a shareholder, and by 2024, he completed the purchase, taking over the outfit’s legacy and rebranding it as Crazy Creek Outfitters.
Our Mission
We believe that hunting is more than collecting a trophy. We respect the resource and a duty to take care of it for the next generation of outdoorsmen. We strive to spread the knowledge we have on how to ethically hunt and harvest an animal as well as our appreciation for the land. We feel honored to share this experience with our clients in one of the most beautiful places on earth!
Our Experience
Crazy Creek Outfitters offers some of the best fair chase hunting opportunities on Montana’s public lands. We are permitted to hunt over a million acres of Federal and State Forest ensuring that we can find game, reduce competition with other hunters, and give you the best opportunity possible to fill your big game tags.
If you don’t harvest an animal on a hunt with Crazy Creek Outfitters, it won’t be because there isn’t a healthy population of game in our vast hunting area. It won’t be because we didn’t try our hardest or lack for skill or knowledge. Matt and his team work hard to give you the best possible shot and are confident that there is ample opportunity for you. Sometimes the success of your hunt just comes down to the weather or plain luck, and those challenges are part of the experience too. That’s hunting big game on their terms and in their environment. If it was easy we wouldn’t have anything to hunt!
Why Choose Us?
Because Matt (owner and outfitter) got here by being a local guide. He didn’t work in another industry or state to make money and come to fulfill some fantasy of being an outfitter. He’s done every aspect of outfitting from the ground up. He respects how hard you have worked to save up for a trip like this, and that you’ve dreamed of this chance for years. As for his other guides, he knows they share his mentality because he has worked with them all first as co-workers or trained them himself as apprentices. He knows their value, how capable they are, and treats them with respect. You won’t find a disgruntled guide in this outfit! We are all professionals and passionate about sharing this experience with you. Come see the sun come up over the Sapphires and watch it set over the Bitterroots. Hear that bugle, feel that burn, get the fever and experience how great life can be here! It’s life changing.
